March 3, 2010 Program for the Future 2010: CoLABoration MashUpEileen and her Program for the Future Colleagues organized the experimental CoLABoration mash up at The Tech Musem of Innovation in San Jose, attended by approximately 100 people. The goal was to launch an intentional neural network for global problem solving. Humanity could find innovative ways to handle our world crises (not to mention our day-to-day problems) if we all could put our heads together and our egos out of the way. At CoLABoration 2010, we experimented with Doug Engelbart's idea of "co-evolution" -- by bringing together technology leaders with experts in human facilitation to try out a variety of new techniques. The experiment will continue with mini-labs, ReMixes, initiatives and discussion. See this wiki and write to Eileen for more information. August 12-14, 2009 Convergence 09: Collaborative Visualization for Collective, Connective, and Distributed IntelligenceEileen joined Jeffrey Heer, Bonnie DeVarco, Katy Borner and others at this highly visual, action-centered Media X Collaboratory bringing together visualization vanguards from the leading edge of science mapping, collaborative visual sensemaking, social network analysis and the emerging semantic web. The collaboratory showcased visual approaches from the World Café process and unconference strategies to encourage rapid action networking amongst participants. The Shape of Thought and Visual Insight mural process supported visual brainstorming and documentation throughout the workshop to create a realtime â??mapâ?? to the new territories presented. The Tech Museum of Innovation December 9 On the 40th anniversary of Douglas Engelbart's legendary "mother of all demos," the Program for the Future launched a global competition for new tools that improve collective Intelligence. In keeping with Engelbart's vision of mass collaboration, this event also brought together many communities -- education, business, nonprofit, social, political and technology. The “web 2.0” boom has lasted longer than its “web 1.0” predecessor, and there are storm clouds ahead for the global economy. Battles over the future of software, the data center, broadband, the media, the social ecosystem, and the planet have been joined in earnest. This is not the time for small ideas or business as usual. The shift to network-based computing, services, business processes, marketing, entertainment, social relationships, connectivity, and culture will challenge our assumptions about how the world works. Those who fail to appreciate the complex implications are at risk. Those who can take advantage of the power of the new network face extraordinary opportunities. January 28 29, 2008 VizThink Conference '08Visual thinkers are people who use graphic design, images, pictures, video, animations, sketches, and other forms of visual art for communications and learning. VizThink will bring together several hundred participants from the best of the best in our industry with participation by trainers, marketers, presenters, executives, planners, strategists, and managers, just to name a few. While each approach may be different, the attendees all share the same philosophy in the power of visualization for learning and communication. By bringing these diverse groups together, a community will be created that can take the industry to a new level. VisualInsight will be facilitating this event. For more information, click HERE.
